Independent Shrine game set for Saturday

The Oasis Shrine Bowl Classic, which will match an all-star team of players from N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association schools against players from South Carolina's independent schools, is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Catawba College in Salisbury.

"We'll only have six practices, and it is tough to get everything put together," said Ravenscroft coach Ned Gonet, who is coaching the North Carolina team. "But we are working with tremendous players. They learn quickly."

On Friday night, Charlotte Latin beat Charlotte Country Day to win the NCISAA state title. Eight players from the two teams reported for Shrine practice Saturday. There are 28 independent N.C. schools that play football and 48 in South Carolina.
